What plan and level is right for you and your family?
Most health insurance plans are divided into tiers. Each level has different rules and cost structures. These levels are called metal tiers. So which level is the best for you or your family?
Bronze
At the bronze level, you’ll pay low monthly premiums and high out-of-pocket costs with a high deductible. This plan works for you if:
- You are rarely sick and do not need a lot of medical services or medications.
- You do not have young children and/or your older children are healthy and not involved in risky activities like full-contact sports.
- You are not elderly.
Silver
At the silver level, you will pay moderate monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs with a lower deductible than the bronze level. This plan works for you if:
- You or members of your family have mild conditions that do not require frequent care.
- Your children are in elementary school or older and do not participate in risky activities, such as full-contact sports.
- You are not elderly.
Gold and Platinum
At the gold and platinum tiers, you’ll pay high monthly premiums and low out-of-pocket costs with a low deductible. These plans work for you if:
- You or your family members have a chronic condition that requires frequent care and/or expensive medications.
- You need frequent doctor visits and/or exams and anticipate more than one emergency visit per year.
- You have very young children who require frequent pediatric visits.
- You are elderly and have a higher risk of injury or have a compromised immune system.
